Explosion-proof equipment outside scope of ATEX certification


Clarifying the groups of explosion-proof equipment for which ATEX certification does not apply, will allow the relevant manufacturers to expedite the process of conformity assessment of these groups of equipment and allow them to be placed on the market more quickly.

Explosion-proof equipment outside the scope of ATEX certification

Below-mentioned groups of explosion-proof equipment are posed within the scope of the EU directive 2014/34/EU as stated in article 1 of the mentioned directive, but according to article 13 of ATEX directive, they can not be certified for ATEX.

equipment assemblies or installations for use in explosive atmospheres comprise individual equipment having their own explosion protection and already have been certified for ATEX according to EN 60079 or EN ISO 80079 series. the references relevant to such type of assemblies or installations could be EN 60079-14 or IEC TS 60079-46.

The relevant EU harmonized standard has not been defined in the EU commission implementing decision on harmonised standards for equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.

Any of the above product groups could be assessed and certified under the Type examination voluntary certification scheme.
